The publication of
marks the launch of the Civic Education Initiative, which aims to become the country’s most creative engine for civic education innovation.
The Initiative is part of the Harlem-based Democracy Prep Public Schools, a network led by contributing author Seth Andrew. In the months ahead, the Initiative will announce several ambitious programs to improve civic education in schools and build a national network of educators focused on cultivating informed citizenship.
The Initiative dates back to 2008, when it was founded as the Columbia Civics Project by a group of Columbia University undergraduates led by David Feith, along with Evan Daar and Jordan Hirsch. From the start, the project’s mission has been to help answer a great national question: how to sustain the American experiment in government of, by, and for the people.
